Australian Life Tables | Australian Government Actuary

These tables help the Government, superannuation entities and insurers plan for what is needed in the future. The Australian Life tables are used to more accurately estimate future cash flows in a wide range of areas, including aged care, pensions, Medicare and superannuation.

This report is released every five years and is based on the mortality of male and female Australians over the three calendar years’ information centred on each Census year.

Sub-group mortality tables

In a collaboration with the Centre for Population, the Australian Government Actuary has further investigated mortality during 2016-17 to develop life tables for sub-groups of the Australian population. These studies differ from the Australian Life Tables in that they are based on microdata and adopt a different graduation methodology. The investigations provide more detailed information relating to population mortality by state, by birthplace and by socio-economic advantage and disadvantage (SEIFA status).
